SCOTT DIRTY DOZEN ADVENTURE TRAIL RUN 2020

12K OF NATURAL TRAILS ON  CANNOCK CHASE.

Now in it’s 7th year the 2020 Scott Sports Dirty Dozen is a one of a kind trail running event around Cannock Chase. No other events in the area (other than our own Trail Half Marathon maybe) use anything like the kind of trails we include in the course. This is a “real” trail running experience!

For 2020 every adult entrant gets a free T Shirt and Medal!!

What’s the event all about? Quite simply it’s a proper trail running event. We’re really lucky to have Cannock Chase on our doorstep and we think think it’s the perfect location for trail running. We’ve got lots of hills (up and down), hard stone tracks, muddy single track sections and the “Ditch Of Doom” water section (dry route round for those made of sugar) the course we put together includes bits of everything whilst also taking runners off the beaten track.

Don’t expect any walls to climb over or barbed wire to go under. No boring grass farmers fields…. This is a “Trail Run” we use one of the best and most beautiful areas in the country filled with fantastic natural trails that make the area such a destination site.

We understand that friends and family may wish to come along and watch you suffer. Therefore we’ve done our best to keep the course as close to the start / finish arena as possible.
The start / arena area is based at the Tackeroo Campsite in the heart of Cannock Chase. The course based on a figure of 8 which makes it ideal for spectators as from the arena they will get to see you at the start ,after 1 mile, 3miles, again after 10miles and then at the finish.

The route is on mainly rolling terrain, hard stone tracks with a few singletrack sections that add an extra bit of fun to the course. We recommend trail shoes as the surface is un-even and could be muddy in sections.

From the beginning you head out of the arena into the trees and loop around and back into the arena before heading down into the valley on a mile long singletrack fun section. From the bottom of the valley to head along a steady climb back up into the arena. At this point you’ll find the first feed point.

Now you head out in the opposite direction where the course flattens out for a few miles. You’ll zig zag through some dense wooded areas before heading back into a valley. Now you’re faced with a long steady climb back up on the top of the ridge bringing you to the half way point.

Again the course flattens out before heading into another valley and an area called Brindley Heath. A really picturesque section of the course, you run along the valley with a stream and heathland to your right and wooded area to the right.

Now your heading back toward the arena at which you come to at the 10mile point. You can pick up encouragement from spectators before heading off on a final loop around the arena that includes more fun single track.

Please follow the signage from Penkridge Bank to the car park area. From there you will be directed to the start / finish arena. We recommend that you arrive at this area at least 30 minutes before the start of the event. There will be a secure bag storage area for you to leave clothing / keys etc. Spend some time and warm up before the start and make sure you wear suitable clothing for winter conditions. The start area can get quite windy so a windproof jacket and full length bottoms are recommended.

The venue at Tackeroo is ideal for holding events at. Easily accessible from the north or the south Tackeroo is around 15 minutes from the M6 motorway junctions at Cannock (South) or Stafford (North).

Given the time of year we recommend you plan for wet / cold conditions. Last year we experienced rain, hail, wind and sun! To start with trail shoes are a must. It will be wet and slippy throughout the event and trail shoes will give you the best chance of getting grip.

Cover the legs with tights or very light track suit bottom. Avoid heavy fleece or cotton bottom as these will just soak up water and make running very hard work.

On top we recommend a good base layer with either a highly breathable top for those running quick or a lightweight waterproof for those taking their time. Again try to avoid thick cotton or polyester tops. You don’t need to carry any water as you can get this from the water stations around the course.

We’d recommend that you don’t carry phones or cameras as the course does include areas of deep water. If you do please make sure they are in water proof holders.

We will not be sending out race numbers prior to the event. Please arrive with enough time (we recommend at least 1hr before your event start) to sign on. Signing on will be open at 8.30 in the morning so to give any keen runners time to get sorted well before their start time. At signing on you’ll need to find your name against your correct category and sign your name. For any under 18’s we will need a parent or guardian to sign for you.

We will be happy to process any cancellations up until 2 weeks (15th Feb) before the event. You will also have the option to change details, move category or transfer entries to another rider or have a refund. This can be done by the entrant but logging into their Racespace account.
